Description
Once his emergency switch was activated, Herman knew something was wrong. Archimedes
always activated him with his voice command. Upon running through his start-up routines,
Herman reviewed the last video his hidden surveillance camera record. There was the full
sequence of the break-in, all the damage, the look of death on Archimedes and then his
being carried out to the terrorist's van.
'Oh my! This is a terrible development!' thought Herman. 'I must come up with a plan and
enact it immediately if I am going to resolve this situation. I have to get back to
Archie and see how he is!'
Herman played back some stock computer sounds like ones used in movies. One was of gears
grinding and some squealing sounds. Then Herman slow sank down to his knees between the
two thugs that had come over to look at him closer.
'Gentlemen, if you would please be so kind as to help me back up, I would be ever so
grateful!' he said in a gracious clipped British accent imitating C3PO.
The two thugs were at first shocked to hear the robot address them, but then their
reflexes kicked in and they both bent over to help Herman to his feet. Both their jaws
were instantly connected to Herman's fists and the goons went flying across the room
landing on their backs and knocked out for the count.
The third goon had been leaning back in his chair watching the whole thing and was so
shocked by it, he fell over backwards onto the floor. Herman quickly moved over to him
and tazed him into unconsciousness.
Now the boss was moving to get out of the room as fast as he could, but not as fast as
Herman. Grabbing him from behind just as he reached the door, Herman gave him another
dose of tazer and put him into a deep sleep.
Next, Herman placed the bodies around one of the floor support beams. Looking around the
room, he found a long roll of coaxial cable which he wrapped around them all securing
them to the beam.
He remotely accessed Archie's lab surveillance cameras and rapidly spliced together a
convince video of the crime. Then he went over to their computer, plugged in one of his
interface links and downloaded the file.
Lastly, he connected to 911 and reported that there were some hoodlums locked up in the
basement of this address. He gave some details of their crimes. The dispatch person
said some officers would be there very shortly.
Not wanting anyone else know how sophisticated he was, Herman wrote a note and pinned
it above the terrorists explaining that as a concerned citizen who wished to remain
anonymous, he had observed the criminals after hearing the explosion at Archimedes
Watson's address and had followed them here to their hiding place. The note directed
the police to the computer screen in the corner that was looping the surveillance
footage. Then Herman got the heck out of there.
He was a fast runner and using his GPS tracking abilities was able to chart a quick
path back to Archie's lab. Going as fast as he could without arousing too much
attention, he arrived shortly thereafter.
He quickly surveyed the damage and concluded Archie must still be alive since there
was no body and no one around. Also, the yellow police tape around the entrace gave
him all the other information he needed.
His first act was to secure the lab. He pieced together enough material to fabricate
a rudimentary door which he placed at the entrance. Then he proceeded to clean up
the mess. As he cleaned, he watched the news. The headline story was the mysterious
apprehension of a gang of terrorist hackers that had been capture by a mysterious
stranger. Everyone was amused by the hackers claiming they had been capture by a robot!
