Description

First of all i would like to thank you all for having taken the time to read my “life”adventures of the incredible cloning of a 3TB harddisk on a computer wich is 6 years old. Some of you had great fun according to the comments, and believe me ,i had at least as much fun reading the comments, you know i imagine your faces when reading my stories and i add some mimic in my head and this gives me plenty of fun. The basic idea of the harddisk was not, that i wanted it soo badly, but my sister called a couple weeks ago and she said she haid some weird noise in the pc,so i thought of giving her my old harddisk and buying me a bigger one cloning my data on it and finish,up and running. But as you been reading the things were not that easy. I finally decided to waste 1TB of data and let the system only recognise 2TB,that leaves me with 6,5 TB (lol),and you know what,my sister does not needs a new harddisk, the noise was some dust in the CPU fan muahahahahahah. And please dont tell me how to recuperate the “lost”TB,because this guy is not going ahead and flashing the old BIOS and change the masterboot parameters or the like,i have been through this in previous operations lol. BtW,have you ever realised how we get screwed by hardisk manufacturers and the shops?Bbecause ITB is not ITB,they calculate with 1000 whereas the real thing is 1024,1mb=1024 kb,1gb=1024Mb one terrabyte should be 1024-GB, that means on a one terrabite harddisk you get only around 931 Gig formatted and so on,you can do the numbers. Now finally done, installed windows 7 +sp1 and doing the fine tuning and installing my applications anew.but i will take my time to complete this operations, today our very best friends from the old times come to visit us,they have a “chalet” on the camping nearby, they will close it down for the wintertime and for this occasion spend the evening with us.I see whether we get chinese or pizza delivered and we will have a lot of talks and laughings.we know each other since the early 80s,the friendship goes really way back and has always been strong and loyal from all sides. I love and leave you folks, and i will start doing my comments tomorrow sunday.thanks for your patience and hugees from spackoland. Listening to Cuyrtis Mayfiled at the moment, this guys lyrics are froma long time but they depict the same crap whats going on today (-isis and some other issues Fukrainia etc..) Little child, runnin' wild Watch a while You see he never smiles Broken home, father gone Mama tired, so he's all alone Kind of sad, kind of mad Ghetto child, thinkin' he's been had But I can just hear him In the back of his mind sayin' Didn't have to be here You didn't have to love for me While I was just a nothin' child Why couldn't y'all just let me be Let me be, let me be, let me be? Little child, runnin' wild Watch a while You see he never smiles Broken home, daddy gone Mama tired and he's all alone Kind of sad, oh baby, kind of mad Ghetto child, thinkin' he's been had And I can just hear him sayin' I didn't have to be here You didn't have to love for me While I was just a nothin' child Why couldn't they just let me be Let me be, let me be, let me be? Ain't got no money I got to play in the alleys, ain't got no pride Just took everything out of me, I got it sad Got to make it alone Got to get away from home There's ain't no fun, my life I just run Run on, run on, run on ghetto child Run on ghetto child Run on ghetto child Run on ghetto child You're runnin' wild Watch a while You see he never smiles Father gone, alright Songwriters: MAYFIELD, CURTIS

Fabulous news indeed, Rene! Congratulations and all that. I trust that with this glorious tidings, you were also able to clean the fecal matter from the blades of the AMD. Wonderful pictures and news that you have presented us today/tonight/somewhere in the future.... :: Air Moving Device

Sorry Doc I have to let you know. Your "older" system (like mine) has a motherboard that runs BIOS firmware and not the latest UEFI firmware. As such you ARE limited to 2TB of LBA addressable space. UEFI based motherboards allow a bit extension to "address" (LOLOLOL!!) this limiting issue. You need a feature called GPT to get round this issue - via UEFI. No worries though Doc, your 1 TB will sit there until you upgrade the motherboard (do you do this sort of thing yourself?) or buy a whole shiny new UEFI based system. As for disk space you are right. 1 KB = 1024 bytes NOT 1000 bytes, but this is how the industry rates HDD capacity currently. That's how you get .931 GB from each 1 TB disk (minus any OS installed and all that).

Looks like the lights of inspiration have visited the Doc! I am glad to hear you completed your project, the with 1 TB to spare! LOL! You are an inspiration to us all with your ability to tackle these very delicate and complex challenges! My hat is off to you. You look like you are in great health. I hate to think what kind of image you might conjure up when you read my comments or view my art! Again, LOL! But we all have our little human frailties. I have plenty of my own to go around! Have a great time enjoying your newfound wealth of storage space and I hope your party with old friends was a blast! Rock on, Doc! Rock on!!!!!

Good to know you are on top of your computer issues Rene! I thought it must be pretty daunting because you didn't post even after you arrived at your lovely new home. Just added a NAS server to our two reasonably proficient work stations. Gladly both running Windows 7! Have a great weekend Sir! Steve ;)

Glad to hear you've got the contraption working; crazy world when something just 6 years old is already out of date! NB 1 Terabyte is what you get from a T-Rex.

I wouldn't know a GigawhosieTetrathingie if it bit me in the backside. I'm glad you got everything straightened out without losing anything or bludgeoning yourself to death with the keyboard. Have fun with your friends and give yourself a good rest from tinkering for a night. BTW, The photo looks like the set up for NASA.

Glad to hear your ordeal is finally over and you have emerged triumphant. I have lost count of the number of times I have had to go through the same ordeal, rather it was due to upgrades or equipment failures. After having numerous crashes and loss of data, I have become about as paranoid as one can get. I not only have an external hard drive as a back-up for work files, but also one for files needed by all the programs I use. And just to make sure, the computer does a weekly back-up of all files to yet another hard drive, just in case of another lightning strike. Oh, and then there are all the DVD back-ups for good measures. Did I mention I was paranoid? I am currently in the process of repairing my desktop computer that got the motherboard fried by lightning down the modem wire (I go wireless now). Right now I'm using a laptop that is very well suited for doing graphic work, but I have it hooked up to back-up drives as I said. Though the processor wizzes right along, the USB ports tend to complain. Have a good one, Doc

I had the same problem with my newest PC. I ordered a 3 Terrabyte drive not knowing Windows 7 only recognized two. When I got a PC virus and had to wipe my drive, I instead bought a new two Terrabyte drive for the PC and turned the old three T. one into an external drive, thus saving the extra space.

Well, it looks like you came out on top, Rene - but I never doubted for a moment that you would prevail! After all, you ARE the Cyberdoc! :-D Drives are getting cheaper (I mean less expensive), and Microcenter has them on sale frequently, so I'll pick up a 1 or 2TB every now and then. I have a couple I just use to back up my ever-growing runtimes, and stuff I've bought fro Rendo, DAZ, etc. I do have a networked Seagate 3TB drive that works great, and I can actually access it from anywhere with a web app. The photos look great, and you do look like a happy camper, buddy! Hope you and your friends have a great weekend! So good to see you back, brother!
