BIO
My real name is Lars, and I live in Denmark. All my life I've been drawing and making pictures, occationally as a "professional" but always with an amateur ("for the love of it") approach.Being a proficient airbrush artist, the jump to computer graphics (Photoshop, Painter) wasn't all that hard for me, it was just a question of understanding how to employ the techniques to this new medium.
In july -02 I dug into the world of 3D rendering for the first time, in Bryce 5. A truly fascinating experience! My computer has been rendering ever since ;o)At the beginning I thought I'd be making lots of sci-fi stuff, but something happened right back from the early Bryce days: I started to look at trees and nature, the sky etc. in a new manner, or more intensely at least. I've always been a big fan of beautiful landscapes, and instead of sci-fi, I began a "quest" for 3D landscaping and beliveable environments.
Over the years, the 3D rendering has more or less taken over my creative endeavours. Vue became my application of choice from the start of 2003, with Poser, XFrog and Onyxtree as auxilliary programs. Plus a whole arsenal of new and ancient freeware, to be mentioned are Bantam3D Grass and Plantstudio.

Well I think it's beautiful! I see you followed the rules with not post working it. Still, it looks very realistic with what one would see as they were hiking through a preserve on a sunny day. Well done!

I don't understand how they judge things, sometimes I see some images better than the ones qualified for top 10, but anyway, I like this image, Well done. I like all the fine details like a nature landscape.

Frequent visitors to your galleries may have come to observe my tendency to wax lyrical over my admiration for your beautiful and highly skillful work. Yet when you combine both your keen ability to replicate a natural scene and my favourite of all tree, the beech, I am afraid I am forced to flow over in my praise into the effervescent! There are many, many of your works that I adore. Here you have created an all-time favourite. The slice of nature you have created here is so much like the real thing that I can smell the spring-leaves; spy the rippling like permeating through the canopy like a panoply of arboreal sprites and hear the ripping music of the forest stream. Who is your muse? Tell me what is her most beloved offering that I might gift it as well and thus share in the visions that awaken such treasured visions as this!

This work is absolutely superb. I like the moss on the rock and the reflection on the water. I would give it a double 5 if I could.

Wish my full hearted attempts were half this good.

I know exactly what you mean Lars, I feel the same for the lost months, but I think I went back to Vue for the last 8 weeks, I don`t know what it brings. However this one has a realy nice layout and it looks very nice.

I'm not sure what they are looking for in the pictures. I imagine that they want to highlight new additions to the software. I didn't make the cut either, but your image is way more detailed and elaborate than mine was. Excellent scene. Water, stream banks, vegetation, rocks and lighting are extremely well done. - Bob

The level of skill that went into this wonderfully detailed composition is off the charts (and more so considering the half-hearted circumstances). I am blown away by the diversity of detail and the play of light, shadow and reflection. A winner in my book!

You always have an eye for detail. Some of your images could be contenders. Maybe next year? You deserve to win something.

Stunning image, Lars! I've always enjoyed your straight nature renders...

It sure is better then some of the other slapped together images that made it in the finals of the competition. You can clearly see work when into this and I quite like it!

I like it, in fact I like all our landscapes. This has the look (but not the smell) of a real creek bottom. I come from South-Eastern Kansas which is near the Ozark mountains so I'm very familiar with small creeks. Its a region where boys and creeks (and some girls) just naturally go together. Ever hear of skinny-dipping? A couple of observations though. In Kansas you don't see extensive tree roots sticking out of a bank much. The spring floods grab the roots and pull the whole tree out. If there is a steep bank like on the left in your picture, its generally on the outside of a sharp bend. Also, you don't see large rounded boulders in a non-mountainous stream beds. The rocks in a stream bed like yours tend to be small alluvial rocks like the ones on the stream edges in your picture, If those large rocks represent some type of man-made ford then the ford shouldn't end in a tangle of tree roots and they would be flat rocks.. Finally, don't knock painting with the flu, One of the best paintings (in pastel) that I have ever done was done while I was recuperating from a bad case of flu.

Still looks awesome for a "half hearted attempt". Great scene and composition and excellent render.
