Description
This was taken while standing on a huge dome of pink granite, on top of a hill at Elephant Rocks State Park. I would have LOVED to launch the Phantom from up here, but it was so gusty, and unpredictable. One minute it would be calm, and a few seconds later you'd get a 25mph gust. I'm sure we'll return, so maybe closer to dusk, or early in the morning when it's calm.
Anyway, the rocks you see in the background are the same pink granite as the huge dome they are sitting on. They resemble a herd of elephants, which is where the name of the park originated.
It rained last night, so there were lots of little pools in the depressions in the rock. I've heard tales that the Faeries like to take a dip in these... I'll have to look closely through the tons of photos I shot. Maybe we'll see one (or two) *wink*
Now to try and get a little bit caught up on comments before hitting the sack.... Did a lot of hiking today, so we're both bushed! LOL

Fantastic capture Rod. This would have been very cool to see it from the Quad's POV but got to keep the investment secure and safe.

Ooh! Now that's a place right up my kind of alley! Love the textures and shapes those stones make, what an amazing place. Great POV, I love how you juxtaposed the pools of water and the distant pile of boulders.
Now, if you can balance a stack of THOSE rocks, I'll REALLY be impressed! LOL The tallest one is about 20 feet.....And weighs about as much as a locomotive engine.
Rod, this really is a spectacular view. I can understand why you had some concerns over launching the Phantom up there.

I reckon the thermals would do exactly that HotRod, so a wise choice not to launch methinks! Can't see the elephants though, try as I might - maybe another shot would help?

YES!! Granite! Greetings from the Granite State. That would be New Hampshire!!! A beautiful granite formation. Love the pools and yes, I bet there are fairies that like to take a dip there! You should set up your camera to catch a pic of them! Hmm...so the place was named for the rocks in the background. Sorry to tell the people who named it, but I don't see elephants. I thought it looked like an elephant had been there after a large meal, but don't really see a herd of them, LOL!! I guess it is like the people who named the constellations. I think they had a bit too much wine while star gazing, LOL! Oh, that may be it! Maybe I need a drink or two and then look at the rocks in the background again and I'll see elephants. And being that it is pink granite, I shall see PINK elephants!!!!
