Description
Centrifuges
The centrifuges used to enrich nuclear fuel
They allow, along with a sophisticated gas centrifuge process to separate due to the difference of speed of the centrifugal settling of uranium 238 of the products of different densities (such hexafluoride hexafluoride lighter uranium 235, for to increase its proportion and enrich the future nuclear fuel, natural uranium is not rich enough fissile uranium 235).
Uranium ore must be first purified and then converted into gas (or uranium hexafluoride UF6). This gas is injected in a special centrifuge, the rotor of which rotates at high speed in a vacuum chamber. With time the isotope U238 (heavier) then swerve aggregate against the wall of the centrifuge, while the U235 lighter molecules accumulate at the center. Various processes lead to good separation. The operation is repeated until the desired result. There is talk of centrifuge cascade (mounted in series and in parallel by thousands). As they pass to a centrifuge to coast, the uranium-235 content increases. The depleted UF6 is returned at the beginning of the cascade for reprocessing.
The process was developed in the 1980s in the USA by the Department of Energy of the United States (DoE), with the construction of a first test cascade (1300 gas centrifuges) at the Oak Ridge lab (Tennessee) and the enrichment plant Piketon (Ohio), which operated a hundred centrifuges for 9 months. The idea was abandoned in 1986 and relaunched with a system of separation of isotopes by laser and vapor (SILVA, which since 2000 researched by USEC). Several manufacturers have developed gas centrifuge: Dutch German Russian and English (Urenco has created in the 1990s a company ERP) ...
This solution tends to replace other enrichment alternatives (laser process, electromagnetic separation and liquid thermal diffusion and even gaseous diffusion separation (energy-intensive). Enrichment increases the 235 isotope ratio (0.7 %, it goes to 4-6% depending on the duration of centrifugation, and according to the customer's order).
They are necessary for the production of nuclear fuel, but also for the production of military equipment, which is why the enrichment centrifuges and the number of factories are monitored by the IAEA. For example, Iran already has a plant in operation at Natanz (which can hold 54,000 centrifuges at least 8582 2010 provides nine other factories and announced build its third factory in 2011).
In the USA, enrichment plants are subject to the law which imposes liability insurance for installation, special inspections, including before starting operations and an extensive impact study, especially because of the risk of pollution air. Radioactive waste produced by these plants must be treated according to the laws.

Great image and cool discussion regarding the installation and operation of the GCs
fantastic and marvelous image
Remarkable work! Great!
Very cool image, Real! I guess time will tell how this all works out..
cool
These are like rabbits, cool work.
All this is so very technical and beyond my little brain Magik! Awful news about Bianci.
GREAT LOOKING ARTWORK!
Cool artwork my friend.
wonderful
Very cool, Magik. Isn't tomorrow your birthday? If so, Happy birthday!
I haven't a clue how you do these but they are amazing!!! x
Cool image!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
excellent.
this is pretty and very playful... nice work!
So many centrifuges in this image and I fear that the problem has gone so far that it may not be able to be stopped! A excellent creation my friend!
Lovely colors in this Bryce abstraction!
