I actually took this picture a few days ago, and things are changing (relatively) fast these days. About a year ago I figured out an alternative route to drive to work that took back roads through what is mostly farm-country. In Michigan, that means most of the roads are more like "Tunnels through the Trees" than anything else. This time of year the "slow motion fireworks" of the changing colors on those trees has been making it difficult for me to keep driving. I constantly want to stop and take pictures. What seems unusual about this year is the Maples are turning in an oddly-speckled fashion: One or two branches, or just the ends of the branches, will turn into these spectacularly intense reds and oranges, while the rest of the tree stubbornly remains a rich healthy green. It's almost like a giant wandered by with a paintbrush covered with red paint, but carelessly dangled it, lightly brushing only parts of the trees while leaving the rest unaffected. The results at times are almost breath-taking. This shot came straight from my camera. I didn't push up the color or contrast, just cropped and dumped it here. Sometimes I'm amazed I even make it to work at all.
