Description
Vespa crabro
Hornets at the entrance to their nest.
We went again to Arne today before the weather breaks, and did a different part of the reserve as well as returning to this nest, which is at about face level in the tree.
I am pleased with this in spite of the fact it was pretty rushed and therefore not absolutely sharp.
When the flash went off they got rather interested......

That's ok so long as they made light of it !! Nice shot and you were very brave.
That is an amazing photo!!!
Wonderful capture Andrea. God bless.
Klasse shot,great image!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Top Class! An interesting view showing the structure and the bouncers out front!
Jay cracks me up! They do look very menacing but you managed to get an excellent image anyway. As Rudyard Kipling once wrote, "You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din."
They look quite organized! They'll probably have a meeting later to discuss the event. :P
Great capture! this would be one that I'd do at a distance, zooming in to get the shot! While I'm not allergic to them, I do not relish the idea of having multiple stings, machine-gun style on my body
interesting !
Yikes! I'm not sure I would have had the nerve to try this! Brave indeed, hope you came out unscathed!
Outstanding Bravery Andrea ! Awesome macro shot of the hornets mesmerized by the flashlight.
Amazing capture !!!
Yes, I think I'd shoot and run, very fast! Excellent capture!
Bloody hell fire, now i see even more, pooper would go again, I give these a very wide berth.
An excellent find and macro capture Tizzy comes through again and nobody got stung!
