Description

A shot of my barn, which we don't really use for anything (other than photos) - it just came with the property. I find it interesting that there are companies whose sole business is selling "reclaimed, vintage barn wood" to people searching for that "authentic look". I'm sure some of the old timers here get a kick out of that. Is it a legitimate business or a scam? You decide... Lots more "authentic" detail in zoom...

With something like this those buyers wouldn't have enough money to convince me to sell this

A building like that should be protected under law but at least they get photographed a lot for posterity. Nice shot.

Here it would be converted carefully into a home. It is a delight.

I think it's special either way. I too, wouldn't sell for any money. There is something almost "sacred" about it. Beautiful capture, and I really like the lighting in your composition!

I think it's legit, when we were remodeling my house in California we got old barn wood to surface the support beams in the great room. It was a lovely look. Lucky you to have this on your property to shoot whenever you want!

Welllllll ... legit or scam ... I suppose it depends. Years and years ago (this would have been in the late 70s) I knew a man who was in a "family business" with his brother. They used to go out in the country and find old barns that were no longer being used. At dusk they would drive a moving van into the barn, dismantle the barn and load the truck up with all the wood they could carry. It was pure theft, of course, and they made a bundle. Aside from that, I suppose if you wanted to sell your barn to someone who would recycle the wood, what harm is there? Old wood is beautiful, and there won't be any more of that lovely old growth lumber available in our lifetime. If we reuse wood that was harvested a hundred years ago we get the benefit if its nearly indestructible properties, and leave other trees for ... say ... toothpicks or something. :P
