Description
Well, a month ago I told you all about a major odor problem in my building. It's believed the odor is from one of several drug users. The city was brought in, a lawyer, etc: It's harder than one can imagine, because of the need for warrants to enter units. But they've discovered one of the protagonists---a man who threatened some people on the staff. Court orders have gone out. It's a mess. It's one of the drawbacks of high rise living. In retaliation, he messed with the internet lines, so that many of us lost our service. I'm typing this on a mobile device...
I've considered moving, but lord, I do not want to go through that now: It takes so long to find a good place, it takes so long to pack years of belongings; then to move, then re-settle in the new place (and I've got family illness and some other matters). Others are going through this too: If the building can solve it, we'll stay.
This week I commented in half your galleries, and it was great. But I'm gonna have to pull back today, because the internet's too slow. I hope to be back next week. I'll get to the rest of you then.
But I loved being back in your galleries, and I'm very grateful for all you give me---this is a great community, and you give me great joy and inspiration.

Hot, intense, the trunks and branches remind me of arteries pulsating with blood. My blood would be boiling over the odor and internet mess you are experiencing, Mark. Stay strong and like the seasons, and these trees, in time things will change and will be blooming a vibrant green once again.

Great day in the mornin'…..what's this? Drug dealers, lawyers, physical threats? Sorry to read of your plight, Mark; moving is such a traumatic event, even under better conditions. And I always thought of high rise living in a Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers motif, with pristine retro furnishings and upper class renters. But this is no longer the movie fanciful romantic 1930s. It's now the ever threatening 21st Century of slum lords, drug dealers and users, moral and ethical decay, political corruption, unremorseful killings, Internet hackers, et al. I wish you the best in re your situation. And, on a lighter note, you have presented us here with a bright, in-your-face, highly radiant, contrasted and silhouetted image, to remind us of your many high key artistic talents. Well done, my friend.
I'm sorry you're going through this nightmare, Mark. And I hope that law moves more quickly in the face of the threats and malicious retaliation. Why should the law protect one person's questionable rights in the face of the inconvenience and discomfort of many neighbors, who are no doubt more desirable tenants? It boggles the mind. Regarding this image, well it reminds me very much of how things are looking to me these days without two pairs of sunglasses--very bright, and lovely if I can look for more than a split second!
Mark, as I stare at this picture the emotion really pours forth from it after reading about your plight. That is indeed a sad situation when some poor soul has become consumed by drugs to the point it is effecting everyone around him. Of course in a city like Chicago there is a lot of red tape to go through, and the authorities seem to move at a snails pace. My main concern is the obvious destructive nature of this individual, and hopefully he is removed before anyone else can be put at risk. I'll add this situation you're going through to my prayers at night that God can either speed up the authorities in removing him, or better yet that someone is able to reach this lost soul and help him turn his life around.
I love your photographic eye. This is a beautifully powerful image, and a wonderful use of your high-contrast technique. The sun and its reflection off the lake create a wonderful composition, and the runner provides an anchor that's easy to identify with. Really fine work!
You do these high key shots SO well; if I tried it, I'd get a blur and probably blow out my camera!! I truly hope the problems at home can be resolved. You've certainly had more than your share in that building.
Ew...there's nothing worse than belligerent, smelly neighbors! If he's creating a smell, what the frak is he doing? Hopefully the situation can be resolved soon! I'm pullin' for ya. Now as for this image! I love it! Dawn in Chicago is one of the things that makes this city so nice. The lake has that effect, and I love a good Lake Effect Dawn, complete with truncated jogger! The only problem with dawn, now, is I'm usually heading to work, through a subway, and so all I get to see are...well...sleepy people, and none of them are jogging, though maybe they have an app for that now. I love the trees and how the high key has brightened the dark colors into reds and near-ochers. The whiteness is really stark, but inviting as well, and the whole piece is simply elegant. The leaves really draw me in. I can almost hear them, and I love how they're just vaguely green: well, they are green, but only in terms of a whisper instead of a verdant bellow, and so they're more evocative of green: green by way of innuendo, which is so much more fun. This is really brilliant!
