Description
Captured 6/26/12, at beautiful Rynerson Park in beautiful Lakewood, California.
Instead of lying on my back to shoot these pictures, just a few of the several taken using this same POV, I employed the rotating LCD monitor on my Canon PowerShot SX20 to center the tower(s) as best I could. Hence, I was looking down while maneuvering the camera; not easy when hampered by camera shake and the glaring light washing out the screen. I think I've taken more photos of my reflection than anything else.
And, for some inexplicable reason, I took a total of 332 power tower/line photos during May and June of 2012, virtually all of them in south Lakewood and around the Long Beach Walmart parking lot. Quite an electrifying experience.
Ciao.

Yikes, that's a lot of shots of the power lines; best be careful, too much exposure can give you tumors, so I'm told...but oh, the payoff: that fascinating geometry of lines and struts, all laid on the brilliant blue sky! Well done, you!!
Cellphones are also supposed to cause tumors, and are sperm killers. Anyway, other than that short stint around the towers in May and June of 2012, I haven't been near them since.
Very clever idea you had to get this photo, Harry.
cool pov

I think this a absolutely terrific, Harry. Congratulations

fabulous work on this, great POV
As you and Denise affirm, this isn't the easiest place on one's body (radiation-wise), but---again, ala Denise---the temptation is great. You said on a few occasions, "for some inexplicable reason, I took a total of 332 power/line photos..." Well, it's not inexplicable to me: The fascination and draw of these huge metal gods is huge. I can see why you were drawn to them. (In Chicago, as I mentioned a few years back, the police stop you if you linger in these places too long, to ask who you are. They don't stop you from shooting, mind you, but they want to be sure you're not planning to subterfuge the city's power. Post 9/11 stuff. In any case, it wasn't easy explaining to a plain-clothesman that I shot these things because of their 'beauty': He said, "really??? their beauty??? You photographers are strange beasts...") I love the light pouring in on the left, in both shots. And I have a similar camera with that rotating LCD screen, and yes, it's a convenience but it takes real getting used to. But you did a wonderful job: The top shot's a dialogue between two gods, against a deep saturated blue sky; and the bottom one's a closeup of the under-workings of one of them. Like a spiderweb for a big metal spider. Very clear, clean and eloquent captures. And your sky is beautiful and clear and fine foil to the beige and metallic hues of the metal. Another fine shot of these tower gods. If you got that many shots, a couple years ago, maybe you don't have to go back (and risk your health); but it sure gave great fodder for your eye. Love 'm.
