Description
Surprised that Allium is the Latin word for garlic. Also surprised that it is in the same family as onions, chives, scallions, leeks as well as garlic! Photo taken in the gardens behind our local library. Zoom improves details.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated.

thanks for you info, also a really nice capture at the bee at work.
full screen for maximum enjoyment
Lovely shot! I like the additional allium in the background. I've seen garlic and onion blooms that look similar to this, only smaller.
bien vu
Nice shot Dana there are a lot of ornamental onions some have really big flowers this one is a lovely colour, flower arrangers love the dried seed heads. not all are good to eat.
I love these big blue globes! Great capture!
Great capture and details!
beautiful flower, and I love that blue color!!!!!!!!!!
A nice shot of these flowerettes and the worker bee making the rounds.
Great capture and interesting info on plant!!!
Beautiful shot!!!!
An excellent shot. Fantastic details and DOF.
looks like the blooming of onion! the bee found a good place, a lot to carry away! ;o)
Excellent capture! Zoom a must to fully appreciate this shot. The footholds available to the bee seem awfully tenuous - I'm surprised she doesn't fall off the flower. :)
Great capture!
Beautifully captured Dana!

Must be one of those Italian bees getting garlic for is spaghetti ! LOL Fine find and capture ! ~Cheers~ BTW, mum is now staying Andrea (durlybeachbum) and doing fine.
Superbe gros plan mon ami...et très très belle image !!!
In a way I love blue flowers in a garden, and so I love this beautiful detailed Allium, with even a bee on it captured. It really is worth to zoom, for seeing how sharp you've captured it, Dana.
Lot of "work" for that bee !
