Description
We went on the HMS Belfast for a self-guiding tour. Portions of 9 decks are open to the public. In the past I have been on the American battleships Missouri (Honolulu, Hi), New Jersey (Camden, NJ), North Carolina (Wilmington, NC), and Alabama (Mobile,AL) and none of these ships had as many areas open to the public as the Belfast.
There were many interesting things to see, including a simulation of the Belfast's 6-inch guns during the battle with the Scharnhorst, both sound and vibration of the deck.
On the aft deck was this coiled rope, it looked very neat, but I don't know the purpose, but that would be something Tara would have noticed and photographed. Anyway, I thought about you when I saw this Tara.
On a different note, in the first half of last week, as we had a couple more days in London, they talked about a possible heat wave towards the end of the week with temperatures reaching 85, 86, and possibly 90 (32 C) with possible thunderstorms.
When we landed at 23:30 at Phoenix Sky Harbor on the 16th, the temperature was 98 F.
Overall, we had a fairly cool summer so far. The weatherman just 2 days ago pointed out that so far we have had only two days when the temperature hit 110 F, whereas last year we already had 15 days with temperatures exceeding 110 F with temps topping out at 117 F.
Well, yesterday we hit 113 F (45 C) and today 114 F. The 114 F today tied a high for this date, but the overnight low from yesterday to today set a new record- 94 F. Gila Bend, about 60 miles southwest of Phoenix hit 120 F today. None of these temperatures are records, but we finally have hit summer temperatures.

Very decorative rope work! Good eye to see and capture it great dedication to Tara. reading your temperatures makes me glad I'm in the PNW
I used to work in this heat. Yesterday afternoon I just got out of the car and the temperature felt like a blast furnace, so I just stay inside, either at home or wherever we go. Air-condition everywhere! And stay out of the sun, since I had skin cancer on my left ear lobe. My garage is not air conditioned, and the temp in mid-afternoon was 114 F, this morning 98 F. No wonder the car batteries don't last to long.
What a cool pattern! You're right ... I would have been all over this! :) I imagine the rope knot is for show. Glad you got to go on board, and thanks for the picture! :)
That looks 'ship shape and Bristol fashion' Sig, Nice capture and I don't think I could stand 114F.
That's a very interesting design.
Cool shot!
way cool !!
The rope... I'm afraid its tradition and a Naval thing mate.. From wayyyyy back in Nelsons days... All had to be in a certain order, discipline created the finest gunners in the world, not the biggest guns.. They fired faster, and aimed better.. I'm glad you got to see Belfast and saw more of it.. And bummer, the heat arrived just after you left! Sorry Rob
That is cool, outstanding capture!
Fantastic shot.

Great shot and dedication!
Amazing capture my friend. God bless.
I love the old wooden decks in this photo and the patterns in the coiled rope!
