Description
Inachis io , Peacock butterfly caterpillars on nettles by the river.
I posted a different photo of these creatures on June 18th. I must go and look soon to see if they have pupated.

Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
wonderful shot..most of them will be eaten by birds though
Wow, they are prolific!!
Cool capture
Yikes, that is a lot of caterpillars. You should go back - wouldn't it be great to get a shot of the new butterfly emerging from its cocoon? Nice find and shot.
A fab image of nature Andrea and I hope they all make it.
A great shot.
EEEEK!!!! I hate them. Good shot, though.
I don't like them , but its a great pic
Fantastic macro!
Looks like an aliens invasion. Very good find.
WOW! So many in same place. I have nothing against them at all, when they go solo, but in big bunches, I dont like to see them anymore, atleast not when they are still caterpillars. :)
Your season is much earlier than ours - no signs of 'tents' being started. This is a super close-up photo Andrea!
Excellent capture! I hope they all make it to butterfly-hood. :)
Interesting shot, it's amazing how they transform into such a beautiful butterfly.
Such humble creatures. Another example of the truth of the ugly duckling story. Super image. I have this image in mind that, when you go back, not only have they built a tent but have set it up and are running a circus out of it. Maybe its time for a glass of wine.
Stellar photo of what reminds me of the offspring of the dreadful female alien creature - with that huge maw dripping saliva - from the classic scifi movie, Alien. Wouldn't want any of them tossed down the back of your shirt/blouse.
Spiky and almost heavy-metal, with all that black...and then they come out so pretty in the end. Wonderful shot!
Very nice shot!
never has an infestation looked more stunning
I know a man who go fishing with these . he do ok with them too. cool looking
