Description
It would seem that I’m often late with birthday greetings (in fact, the only time I remember my own birthday is when I start getting messages. And though I’m late with this particular birthday greeting, I’m sending it, nonetheless, to Lucinda (Myrrhluz). I’d intended to post this earlier, but server issues interrupted (thus making me later) and so I’m posting now.
I wanted to post something involving trees. I’m amazed at how few trees I actually have in my files. I have a sad, scraggly looking thing: something not quite appropriate to a birthday, and so I had to settle for ferns in flower…well…not exactly, but they’re doing that fern thing that they do so well, and they are rather tall. I suppose if you’re an ant, these are trees: venerable, ancient, wise fern-trees, and so—without further ado—here is a belated birthday bouquet of not-exactly-trees…well…they’re not exactly flowers either, but they’re still a bouquet.
Happy Birthday Lucinda (even a couple of days late—which just means that I hope you’ve been celebrating for the number of days it took me to finally post this.) May this be the first of many, many birthdays!

What a wonderful capture of these alien tree-creatures growing in disguise in this bed of ferns. Who would have thought? Clever of you to suss them out, Chip. Happy birthday (belated) to Lucinda!
Very cool capture and great gift for Lucinda
A lovely group of ferns and color combination as a Happy Birthday dedication for Lucinda. Many more to come!!!!
Very nice! I like the combination of the red from the plants and the red bricks in the background.
A very interesting mix. They don't seem to fit in with the ferns but it still works well. Lucinda will love it.
Great to see these in this setting! They look great in this green spot. I've got these in my patch too.
Very fine shot !
Excellent birthday dedi to Lucinda. x
Marvelous capture !!!
That is indeed a lovely burst of green and red. Very beautiful and yes we can pretent it is a tree, a palm tree :-) Lovely dedi for our friend :-)
There must be thousands ... millions ... of types of fern in the world. This one is gorgeous! It isn't anything I'm familiar with. What a beautiful variety!
Amazing capture and dedication my friend. God bless.
This such a nice gesture for a very wonderful friend. And colourful too, all bouquets should be wildly colourful!
Oh, this is beautiful, Chip! Thank you for looking for trees and finding these gorgeous ferns. Their colors and light are wonderful. I love the way the green leaves stand out against the red. I've never seen ferns not exactly in flower. I've seen the fiddleheads of ferns when I was in Washington a little over a year ago. I've learned that people eat them . . . carefully or unwisely, take your pick. This is an excellent shot! I love starting from the bottom and sweeping up, following the red lines to the brick building in the distance. I like images that show lush plants and cities combined. When I went to New York City after a many years absence, I was amazed by all the green. I don't know if I was just singularly unobservant as a young person, or in the wrong places, but I didn't remember all that green. Thank you for this and for extending my birthday! Beautiful image! I like it a lot!
A big wild sumptuous and imposing plunge down fern-land, and then up into Chicago buildings. You've always, in your gallery, shown angles and worlds inside Chicago that most people never stop to look at, and which most photographers don't bother with. Whole worlds unto themselves. This is primal---ferns are anyway, but it's the confluence of them and the red stalks that make these esp so. And your composition and crop allows them to dominate much of the shot, out of which arises Chicago. A big lush piece for our wonderful Lucinda (who has her share of big lush pieces in her gallery), and another wonderful journey in your description---journey through your insights, insides, etc. Happy Birthday, Lucinda, and many, many more! And another fine upload from you, Chip!
very beautiful dedication
