Description
from the 14thc .
Escaping the rain earlier this week in London I went into Westminster Abbey and discovered the Pyx chamber. Briefly this was the Treasury from the 13thc and after a theft in he 14thc these great double oak doors were installed. The locks were very substantial, six altogether, No chances were being taken!!

Very interesting design wonderful workmanship great capture
I love the doors. the oldest doors I ever worked on were from the 16th century imported from France
Fascinating! Love this ancient workmanship, and it's in such good shape...wonderful to see!
Awesome old place my friend and you captured it amazingly, fantastic door!
Gothic galore in this fine foto, Jean.
Thanks for sharing this interesting bit of history in this fine photo.
Never a lock was made that couldn't be opened but like many such secure portals the easiest way in would be to saw through the wood or chisel out the mortar between the stones and remove them. Alas neither would work there because of the constant presence of guards, not to mention that Queen Elizabeth sits just inside all night with a sawed-off shotgun on her lap, LOL! Great photo Jean!
They are magnificent! How interesting this is!
Excellent capture Jean. Must go there sometime.
