Description
As I slowly trudge through completing ducks for my Waterfowl set, I do a render or two just to break up the insane texturing and .cr2 coding needed for each species. The male Mandarin Duck is a great example of the tricky coding; having an unique "Sail" feather that only appears when the wing is folded on a male Mandarin proved to be a challenge for a genic duck model base.
In this image, we have male Mandarin ducks, a couple Painted Storks, a male and female Shoveler and some Linnets (finches) in the background.
Mandarin Ducks are referred to by the Chinese as Yuan-yang (鴛鴦), where yuan (鴛) and yang (鴦) respectively stand for male and female Mandarin Ducks. In Chinese culture, Mandarin Ducks are believed to be lifelong couples, unlike other species of ducks. Hence they are regarded as a symbol of conjugal affection and fidelity, and are frequently featured in Chinese art.
A Chinese proverb for loving couples uses the Mandarin Duck as a metaphor: "Two mandarin ducks playing in water". The Mandarin Duck symbol is used in Chinese weddings because they symbolize wedded bliss and fidelity.
Peking and Mandarin duck? Peking duck is simply a way that duck is prepared for a meal while Mandarin Duck is an actual waterfowl species.

I really like this colorful flock of fowl! Those Painted Storks are very cool and the Mandarin Ducks have beautiful feathers. Excellent setting too.

I can not wait to get my hands on this set, Ken! These ducks are perfection!! I have so many of your birds and I need to start using them...!!! At least ducks are a perfect addition to any landscape with water in it! From what I have seen so far, this set is a MUST for all!
