Description

Seen on Beer beach Devon, UK. Some of you may wonder how these small fishing boats are parked high and dry. They are winched up on the rounded pebbles and by using wooden 'rollers' which you can see some of in the pic. Zoom will probably give you more detail. Have a good day.

Sorry....silly question but why are they taken out of the water Jeff? It's something we never see over here. Are there no safe places to anchor them?

Good point by Andrew, inquiring minds and all that buddy. Mind you I have seen this at Dungeness too, boats winched up and left as you say "High and dry". I wondered at first if it was to extend their life. But Dungeness has many rotting/rotted decrepit vessels.

I would assume judging by the white rounded pebble rocks and the angle of steepness, a lot of high surf/surge comes in and it would be best to get their boats out. It would probably save you a lot of sleepless nights thinking if your boat is ok or not. Then again, it could be the guys are dry docking for maintenance too. Interesting shot. Aloha

Wonderful shot, I see those rollers; that's got to be a method that goes back thousands of years, I would imagine!
