A week or so ago Bill and I went with Lucinda (myrrhluz) to see San Antonio's famous missions. It was certainly a worthwhile trip!
Our first stop was at Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña, or Mission Concepción for short.

There is something rather compelling about that shadow. Is it welcoming or slightly risky? In any case it's a great image.

Great story and memories behind this door and walls.... The wooden door and the iron gate, grabs me completly! I'm impressed with the choices for the conservation of this place. Outstanding light! All is so beautiful, here!

There's something so lovely about those old adobe buildings. I love the rough curves and wonderfully textured surfaces. You managed to get both, and frosted the whole thing with that warm sunlight and a mysterious shadow too--well done!

First, my server's in and out---it did this all last week too---so this session may be in a few visits. But that's ok, I like coming back a few times. Second, as you know, I've seen everything of yours (and have commented on a bunch of them privately, whether in your gallery or not), so you know I've been looking. And third---off topic---did something happen to Wayne? (Whaleman?) His gallery is down. I hope everything's ok with him...I should check the forum, but I will after I comment and upload. Now to your work... A fine end of year shot, because it feels bleak, bleached, empty---like the wee hours of a new year do---and very pregnant to me. But also very clean. Dry/clean. It's great that you left-in some of the stoop beneath the door, because it allows the door to be "raised up", Like it's floating a bit. And you captured it on the left, while all that dry plantlife stands up on the right---pure intuition, to me. Then, the darker orange, left, and the shadow in the door---so musical, so much contrast, balance. You got this beautiful balance, from a shot all skewed and textured. It's as if you arranged the elements by hand (which of course you couldn't have). And, in a wall of broken stone, to have that huge "rupture"---ie, the portion of the building on the far left, which is closer to us than the rest of the building---am I being clear, here? You shot it so that it appears to be on the same plane as the DOOR. You did 'foreshortening' (by shooting it almost flush): It's nearly flat with the door-wall. Just wonderful: Because it makes the divide seem like an earthquake rupture, like this big fault-line running up the building. (I hope you know what I'm talking about, because I'm having a helluva time putting it into words.) This is bleak, craggy, beautifully textured, and very bold. And reeking of the arid south---a perfect for the start for a new year. I love this.
