Description
Amanita muscaria.
A very striking specimen on Redhill Common.
When I got back from delivering Buddy to Weymouth yesterday there was an expression of great relief on Ralph's face as he realised that the dog was not with me.
We had a very peaceful and tension free evening, and Fritz can be top (if not tall!) dog again should he choose.

Beautifully shot...but try as I might, I just can't seem to find the fairies and gnomes!
I can almost feel the peace and quiet emanating from across the pond. Ahhhhhhhhh ... :) Terrific shot! You've captured all the best of this beauty. Color, shine, texture ... it's lovely"!
where's the goblins??????? Wonderful shot,
I totally love this kind and would be a rare find over this way perfect image of it.
They are a very beautiful and photogenic funghi, well captured
It even has a window in the stem! Great find and shot!
Hahaaaaa! this is the first specimen I have seen this year, it is good to know they are around, I have an American lady here in three days, who will like to shoot these, and I know where i can find them :)
It does look like someone is living in it; what a beauty!
Fantastic find and shot. I like very much these mushrooms, but only look at.
What a gorgeous shot and i can see someone is living inside it :) I am so glad for your dogs, that the peace is reestablished. :-)
Superb capture Andrea. Glad all is well now that Buddy is not part of the household. God bless.
Fantastic shot! Glad to know that your dogs are more relaxed now! :)
glad to hear that there is peace in your house once again. Great shot
What a fine specimen, a classic.. many people do consider this mushroom highly poisonous and of course is associated in stories such as the hallucinatory mushroom responsible for Alice's trip into wonderland. There are minimal number of deaths associated with the consumption of this Mushroom all have circumstances not fully associated with it's famed toxic nature, it is hallucinatory but dogs and cats can be attracted to it and if they should consume it then it will surely kill them... reality is to best avoid it as it requires knowledge regarding the processes required to detoxify it in the boiling stages... red does mean danger and it is often the easiest rule of thumb.. apparently reindeers like to consume it and enjoy the high it gives them.. so the image of a red coated portly gent with a white beard flying through the air with reindeers is not so far fetched when it's hallucinogenic powers are clear. Best avoid unless for great captures such as this one.
What a magnificent macro of this gorgeous mushroom, so flamboyant in its coloring. Other than the color and warts on top, it has the shape of a broccoli floret. And, peace, stability and group identity has been restored in the Andrea household, with the departure of the handsome but provocative Buddy.
What an impressive specimen. I guess the pixies were away when you took this. Great light and color.
This is my idea of how fungi should look.
I have never seen one of these in the outdoors!!! Glad peace reigns :o)
Very coloured! A beautiful specimen
Great one.
Gorgeous color and capture Andrea!
The relaxed look on Ralph's face alone tells you that you've made the right decision. It's the good of the whole that has to be considered first. Buddy is a young and beautiful pup who will not spend too much time in the shelter. I love these gorgeous mushrooms! I always expect to see a little gnome peeking around from behind on of these! a great capture!
