I enjoy making centered background images with GIMP to use as wallpaper.

On top of wallpaper, you can use your images as screen savers, too... Nice spiral!

Rather than use a screen saver function, I like to be surprised by setting up John's Background Switcher from http://johnsadventures.com/software/backgroundswitcher/ .
