Description
Scotland, Argyll, Kilmartin
The two most important monuments within are the Kilmartin crosses, one 9th-10th century, the other late medieval in date, within the church.
In the churchyard are a large collection of late medieval gravestones in the 'West Highland' style, dating between the 14th and early 16th centuries. Many are marked by figures of warriors in contemporary dress with spears and swords, along with figures of fantastic animals, foliage and interlace patterns.
Have a fabulous day and thanks for stopping by! ;o)

great capture
Very fascinating.
It is strange to see a skull and cross bones on a grave they must have been pirates !! :) nicely taken Rita
It is such a great shame that stones become weathered and damaged over the years because these look quite intricate. Super capture :)
Wow -- OLD! Wonderful images -- we think of 19th century as "old" in America. Interesting to see some genuinely "old" markers.
Fascinating ! Thanks for the explanations too :-)
history beneath your feet, fascinating
Excellent image my friend, amazing capture, excellently done!
Wild!
Really cool shot!

Excelent capture and very great picture !!!
Interesting carvings... Aloha
Those are quite amazing!
Beautiful old stones, dear Rita. A sterling capture. Hugs.
These are really intriguing!
Getting around right proper now. These make quite a contrast to the ones we saw earlier.
Interesting ancient stones...
These are a fantastic photo with the large skull and cross bones! I have not seen any this old before!
