Description
Captured 10/6/13, early morning, about 1.25 miles from home, next to a Southeast Asian temple.
A ZOOM, as usual, is highly recommended.
Beautiful birds all, except for the following:
The inhabitants of the Temple feed the pigeons daily, who, after their meal, collectively assemble on the telephone wires above, cooing and gurgling while digesting their tasty repast, followed shortly by tons of excrement dropping upon the sidewalk below. One needs an umbrella walking by. And since the sidewalk is rarely washed down, and it rarely rains, you can imagine the accumulated mess. Other than that, the birds are a delight to see.

Oh my goodness Harry what a lot of pigeons, and your description of what happens after their feeding frenzy is yucky. Guess all the rain we get over here in the UK has definitely got its uses then. You would have thought that perhaps the people who use the temple would clean up the mess wouldn't you. hugs Jane xx
I guess we should expect photos of the sidewalk very soon. I am sure by your description of the pigeon poo, it will be quite an abstract image! Nice shots!

Looks like my back yard! Well, not quite; I have a small flock of band-tailed pigeons who have adopted my feeder as a home away from home. They are slightly bigger than these kind, but just as messy; I have noticed a lot of discarded feathers, among other things. This is a great set of shots of the temple's flock; I can well imagine the cooing sounds and whirring rattle of their wings as they alight! And yes, I would expect them to take care of cleanup since they're responsible for the mess to start with! Well done, Harry!
Once you mentioned the wires, I immediately thought about cars below.... The sidewalk is just as bad if you don't see the obvious warning signs on the path ahead of you.

We have a lot of problems too with pigeons, almost in every square of Itay... Such a number of pigeons are not a rare view in my part of the world... They are considered something like pests,... None the less I like very much how you caught them :-)
This makes me want to dig out my Mary Poppins video... reminds me of Dick Van Dyke dancing in the movie. Nice capture
