Description
They have this name because the population peaks at Harvet time.
The opilones are related to the spiders but don't make silk or produce venom, They have two eyes and hunt soft-bodied invertebrates, although their diet includes scavenged corpses, bird-droppings and over-ripe fruit.
This is a male Leiobunum rotundum which I disturbed while dead-heading. I put him on this succulent to pose for me.
We do not call these Daddy-long-Legs in the UK: those are insects with wings not Arachnids!

Exceptional shot!
Great shot!!!!!!!!!!
Wow.... incredible photo.
Great shot and perfect description. Sooooooo many people think these are the same as Daddy-long-Legs and have even had a go at me (on this site) when I politely pointed out the difference.
Great shot of this spider but it looks kinda like a recluse which is very dangerous spiders if bitten.
Very cool macro
Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
Wow, what a fantastic capture; not only this handsome long-legged fellow, but the little hairs on the edges of the leaves too...Well done!
Excellent shot Andrea. And I totally agree about the daddy long legs thing. Those are crane flies
Super capture Andrea and even more so in zoom.
Absolutely fantastic shot, Andrea. One can wonder, how it can controle its own loooong legs :-) We call it harvestman too.. (mejer)
Such delicate beauty! A delightful shot.
Brilliant shot.
I love the little face, which shows up in zoom!!!
Superb photo! :)
Wow...these are some long legs. Superb shot.
long legs he have. cool looking
TERRIFIC SHOT
Exquisite details in this fine photo.
Looks like the ones I call wall spiders ,Great macro.
Great macro of the bizarre arachnid, Andrea, with but two eyes yet. Their diet reminds me of what zombies feast on.
Excellent choice of relocation. He shows up spectacularly well against the black of the aeonium. The Flicker image is even better, like a jewel. My Daddy Long Legs have much smaller bodies than this bruiser.
Excellent shot, we do not see many of these presented here!
I like both poses and I was surprised to read that it only has two eyes instead of the normal eight for spiders.
But they have quite long legs :-P Great picture, very detailed...
Impressive capture
