we have so many here as most major cities.if they do not want to have a place to live one can not force them
A sad truth. As we were this year in the U.S., we also visited Skid Row in LA. It has driven me the tears in the eyes. What make people do in the wintertime???? Even in Germany there are homeless and aid agencies are overwhelmed. Here also, the Company is required! More than ever! An absolutely strong image, Mike!
These things should not happen in any place, unfortunately, here in my country it happens so often that is alarming. I can not venture an age for the first, but it seems that the other is an old man. Great capture, Mike!
So sad to feel these kind of moment Grrrr((5++))
A bed of cardboard and an old jacket for a blanket.... So sad... We have many here as well. Powerful capture, Mike!
Sad fact of life.
There are reasons for this. Forty years ago our Governor Reagan opened the mental hospitals in California. Those deemed not crazy enough were turned out. We are deficient in caring for our veterans. Many of the homeless are military suffering from various maladies. Funds for alcohol and drug diversion have been cut back or eliminated. Some are just those who have lost their jobs, their homes and their hope during our recent recession. But, of course, we don't have the money to begin to solve these problems because the rich need another tax break. The next time any of us complain about all of our problems I hope we can remember this image. What we have is an inconvenience. These guys have a problem. Thanks for reminding us, Mike.
You stated what I really wanted to say, but I did not want to get too damn political. it's a bit of a hot-button issue with me. While having more money would be great, recognition of the underlying issues and causes and a search for a viable solution that will carry over, but as you pointed out, the rich think they need a tax break in order to survive.
Also a sad tendency in south Africa as all over the world. Superb capture my friend. God bless.
This is a powerful capture Mike, and a very heartbreaking situation a lot of people are in.
Sad to see this..:(
A sad commentary Mike, and common elsewhere as well. In Alberta our government ministers in their wisdom closed most of the mental homes in the province literally pushing many out onto the street because they could not cope any other way. Now they complain about the high cost of police hauling these people into hospitals and being forced to babysit them until hospital staff can attend to them. Attending to them really means releasing them out to the streets again. The net effect has been to raise the cost of caring for those that need it. And, sadly, many people with mental problems do not receive any care except from volunteer organizations. Little by little, provincial governments in Canada are destroying the grand health care system that Tommy Douglas created because of being unable to control health care costs. And the reason health care costs are so high is directly as a consequence of out-of-control bloated incomes of doctors in Canada. Of course the doctors will not agree with me because their God-Complex is so well established that they believe they should earn a million or two each while taking three vacations a year. I could go on...
A most relevant photo for these tough times, and I fear it will only get worse as more and more wealth gets concentrated into the hands of fewer and fewer greedy individuals!
Sadly an all too common site – a very strong image Mike!
heartbreaking... :'-(
I like the way he is trying to protect his shoes but what a sorry state.
Very sad thing the moment other people have everything.
AS everyone has said up top we need to care for our own and especially our vets they fought for our freedom sadly this is what our world has become great shot.
all over near a big city where I am at....the problem is those pan handlers asking for money I don't know which one is telling the truth and w hich one isn't so it is hard to give a little
it's a sad situation everywhere my friend. some use old huge big tv boxes as a cardboard house. seems like the funds that the lotterys have could do something about this.
Yes we have lots of homeless people too, what must it be like in the winter, especially when its wet & icy. x
:(
This is happening everywhere, even here in Reno, NV. And your capture is sparking discussion that might open a door to actually help what Regan started in Cali as talked about above. If one could tie their shoes, they could live on the streets and were released. Totally sad and totally wrong as some of the people are capable of doing better but many are not. Thank you Mike that you posted this!
Life today...if..you do not take care..of buiness
A very sad situation in our world...
So sad. If I were homeless I would hitch a ride to a warm climate.
A sad situation Mike but nicely documented!
An unfortunate sight of modern times! Great capture Mike!
Sad and touching image!
When I was involved in the church many years ago I went down to Louisiana and there were many young people living on the streets aged 15-19 that were living homeless most had runaway from good families out of rebellion or disagreements with their parents. They called themselves the "Forgotten Ones". One night we took surplus army blankets and hot vegetable soup to where they were staying at under a bridge. It is one of my most cherished and sad memories I know they appreciated it and felt that they were not as forgotten as they thought they were. I have not shared that memory with many people but this image brought those memories back so I thought I would share it with you my extended family
Thank you for sharing your experiences you are a kind soul
excellent capture
