Description
This is the final image of my tour of the Papal Palace in Avignon, France. Thank you for joining me on this extended tour. Hope you enjoyed this look into the quintessential gothic castle of France.
This is a long view along the front entry way into the palace. It looks a bit more hospitable than the back door I got dumped out of in the previous image. I use the phrase "a bit more" with full intent because no matter where you were or stood in this structure you were aware it was built with intimidation and power in mind.
From this view I can easily imagine the palace being surrounded by an angry mob of rabal rouser peasants and them being dumped on by buckets of hot oil from soldiers on high.
I am off on a research trip for the next two weeks, starting on Sunday so I will probably not get a chance to introduce my next project before I go. I will have internet access and if I can connect with my laptop rather than my ipad I may be able to even post some shots, or at least comment.

Indeed, it is an overwhelming building. I loved this tour and I'm awaiting your next job. I also love the frame you used.
i really enjoyed the tour, photos and info Roxy. love that cobble stone road and the enlarge of this great photo.hope that you'll have more others in store of another place.
Intimidation and power, indeed! Every aspect of this structure is just overwhelming - as it was intended to be. Another great capture, Roxy! You've done an incredible job with this tour, and it's been a blast viewing your photos. Almost as good as being there! Hope you have a fun and productive research trip! Looking forward to your next 'tour!'
Thanks for the series of this place. You gave us a glimpse of a historic place.
Wonderful image I’m amazed how much you captured in this one shot! The history comments and impressions you made were very interesting – thanks for posting!
I see there are arrow slots in the walls too. This was definitely built to withstand an attack...to impress and wreak of power, grandeur and wealth. An interesting place and a great tour! Thank you for sharing it with us, Roxy! Thoroughly enjoyed it :) Great parting shot, btw.
Interesting shot, particularly the stone work in the foreground!
Wow! Nice work. Aloha
Beautiful. 1/1?
What an amazing looking photo this one is, Roxie. I really have enjoyed this tour of Papal Palace
Very impressive POV Good luck on your next adventure
Can you imagine living there? Cool shot!
The sky is probably bright blue with fine spring clouds. But here the focus is on the walls. The palace resembles a fortress and I find the s / w variant very good!
Fantastic image
stunning image!!
Wonderful series of this place my friend!!! Great shot in b&w!!!
Intimidation is the word. Excellent full shot. Have a good and fun trip.
Incredible shot, Roxy, you have such a great eye for architecture. It's almost as though you capture the spirit as much as the form. Beautiful and haunting. :)
love the bw conversion - took me a couple of minutes to make up my mind about the compo - then I remembered the visiting the place. This compo works!
