Description
Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.
(This will be a series of nine shots of cliffs in the Capitol Reef area. I'll try to space them out a bit so you don't get sick of them!)
It seems like everywhere we travel we find stacks of stones. It must be a compulsion born of the human condition. Scattered stones must be stacked. Sometimes we stack and sometimes we don't, but either way they're fun to see. :)

More than one person has asked me about Bill lately. He's doing just fine! He's reading a big stack of books, building a retaining wall at our camping lot, and enjoying life. Fiddling with camera and computer doesn't seem to be on his internal "to do" list right now. :P I'm taking pictures of the wall as it progresses, and when it's done, I promise I'll show you. :)

The trend is seen almost everywhere. They are erecting what is called an Inukshuk (in English) which is now generally regarded as a symbol of respect for people in general, but there are many other meanings to the Inuit people of northern Canada, and many other spellings in the many dialects and languages of the north. They are (here) most commonly erected to approximate the shape of a person with outstretched arms. Many people wear them as a charm and I have one hanging from the left side of my sun visor. So Bill is stonewalling you say?

Good for Bill! Fritz would find him the ideal companion..lots of sitting, either while reading or acting as foreman at the build. Those huge angled slabs are amazing and make me wonder about the sequence of seismic events. Also the nearest stack was made by someone very strong and healthy! I am reduced to large pebbles nowadays!
Stacks of stones are ment to mark a trail in areas where the environment will erode the trail or othet markings. commonly seen above the tree line as there is nothing else to mark a trail with.
The desert can be beautiful. Excellent capture.
