Description
"Wheat Harvest"
When the wheat is RIPE [dry], it is harvested by these large COMBINES. When the HOPPER on the combine is full, the wheat grains are transferred to a truck for haul to a grain ELEVATOR. From the elevator [huge cylindrical storage buildings], it is usually shipped by RAIL all over the country for processing into food.
NOTICE!: The driver has kids in the cab with him: a girl on his left knee and another child standing behind her. Is there another child standing to the driver's right?
As you can see, Combining is a very dusty job. When I worked on the wheat harvest in the Oklahoma Panhandle back in 1964, the combines weren't air conditioned like they are today. While taking this picture, I forgot to roll up the window on my car. The entire interior was covered in dust and WHEAT CHAF. During harvest, these combines often run 24 hours per day until the crop is in.
4th in my series of Wheat pictures from the Kansas BREADBASKET of the World. Thank you for viewing and commenting.

Very cool capture
great photo... my father used to engineer combines for IH in the 80's.
A super harvest scene.
Great image :)
impressive looking machine
I think his wife is sitting beside the farmer holding the girl on her knee with a little boy on his knee helping drive the combine. Fabulous shot!
cool pov and info Jim. like your shot.
What a super cool capture Jim, as I have never seen a wheat combine so big before. Thanks for sharing you're knowledge on the process, as well as pointing out the girls on his lap.
Very cool photo. I miss this about the country. No fields around my house, and a bit of a drive to get to some now. I did a ride along with a friend during corn harvest one time. Quite an interesting experience too. As it had been a very wet summer they had to drag the trucks along side the combines with four-wheel drive tractors. It says a lot about how much is sometimes involved in operating a dairy farm.
It's a pretty capture!
Excellent shot!
teaching them young. hopefully there will be no accident. so many times people with good intentions allowed children to ride with them and unfortunately a child has fallen into the machinery ending in tragedy
oh you can see the driver?? you have good eyes,, I cant see it well done image
