Description
I had finished mowing and was walking around enjoying the fresh cut grass smell when I noticed this Robberfly struggling to carry this grasshopper he had caught. He was flying low and slow until he landed on a metal pole. I managed to get a shot or two before he moved away.
This is the best of those images.
My little pocket Nikon Coolpix 7900 P&S has finally died after 8 years and I am left with only my Nikon D40X. It is an OK camera but not able to really get sharp closeups of insects because it will not focus closer than 4' away. I am really wanting to get a new camera. I am seriously thinking about one of the new super-zooms like the Nikon Coolpix P510 or the Canon Powershot SX50 but have no way to test one out because I live in the boondocks and would have a 200 mile round trip journey to the nearest decent camera store , lol. I have done a lot of online reading and looked at images but you never really know until you hold the camera in your hand and take a few pics. If anyone has any familiarity with one of these super-zoom cameras, I would really appreciate their input.

I only use SLR's so I have no experience with these 'super zooms'. I'm interested to see what people think though and what you end up going for. I agree there is no substitute for hands on experience is there! PS doesn't fresh grass smell great!
My nephew own a Canon power shot SX50.I can share with you that it is worth it to have one of these super zooms.The battery of the Canon power shot sx50 is an improvement. The batteries is the same as the Canon EOS 500D.The battery life last longer and one do not need to have lots of rechargeble batteries. Here is a link to dp review. What a find, Lee! Superb! All my photos including the macros are taken with my secondhand Panasonic P&S cameras, mainly from eBay. They are the Lumix TZ series, of which I have a TZ1, TZ3 and TZ18. They focus to 2" and all models since the 3 have macro zoom. I can't speak highly enough of them. If you can get hold of a 3 I think that was the best, but my 18 performs nearly as well. But I'm sure other folk will tell you about more modern stuff!..happy hunting!
