Description
Here is the lizard - cropped. Ignore the age spotted hands :)
From Wikipedia.org "Egyptian Spiny Tailed Lizard is from North Africia - Middle East. Their diet is primarily herbivorous, but occasionally eat insects, especially when young. They spend most of their waking hours basking in the sun, hiding in underground chambers at daytime or when danger appears. They tend to establish themselves in
hilly, rocky areas with good shelter and accessible vegetation. They are listed as 'threaten species' ".
They are docile, and grow to be as large as 3 ft. This one had been someone's pet and was donated to the Gardens.
He's used in the reptile show and when not working he lives with a beaded dragon lizard. The staff said they really like to hang out together and kinda of snuggle. I took a pic of them in their large glass cage and one was resting on the other. See there is someone for everyone!
They are not common as pets, but if I ever went into reptiles again, this would be my choice.
