they look more like yellow jackets and if they are they can be very aggressive I have been stung by them before and it is not pleasant superb macro

Awesome shot, Chipka would love it, he has a real affinity for these critters. Me? I admire their beauty and elegance of design, but they don't seem to like me so much. You did a great job of capturing their wonderful details in the wings and that nest.
