Description

The Sagrada Familia was Antoni Gaudi's incomplete monumental masterpiece. He started design work on it in 1883 & construction is still ongoing. Here's a summary of it's history from Wikipedia: "Gaudi devoted his last years to the project, and at the time of his death at age 73 in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete. Sagrada Familia's construction progressed slowly, as it relied on private donations and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War only to resume intermittent progress in the 1950s. Construction passed the midpoint in 2010 with some of the project's greatest challenges remaining and an anticipated completion date of 2026 the centennial of Gaudi's death. The basilica has a long history of dividing the citizens of Barcelona over the initial possibility it might compete with Barcelona's cathedral, over Gaudi's design itself, over the possibility that work after Gaudi's death disregarded his design, and the recent possibility that an underground tunnel of Spain's high-speed rail link to France could disturb its stability. Describing Sagrada Familia, art critic Rainer Zerbst said "it is probably impossible to find a church building anything like it in the entire history of art" and Paul Goldberger called it "the most extraordinary personal interpretation of Gothic architecture since the Middle Ages." Seeing it up close & from the inside is truly an awesome experience & I found it pretty challenging to photograph. I have a lot of shots of details, but I liked this telephoto shot taken from the roof of Casa Mila, which is about a mile away...

Wow indeed! Good choice to go for the whole, I can't remember ever having seen a shot of the entire thing (especially including the cranes!) and it's very impressive!

I like seeing this from a distance ... it gives me a different perspective on the place. It's at the top of my list for places to see in Spain. You know how much I like taking pictures of little bits of this and that ... imagine how much fun I'll have in the Sagrada Familia! :)

Epic, lovely capture of this epic ongoing edifice, with some kind of filter added for effect. Most impressive, indeed, but at that rate of construction, we would have never won World War II.

A spectacular photo and it looks like you caught the fading light just perfect. I remember a TV special about the construction during the Barcelona Olympics.
