Description
A near exercise in futility, captured 5/11/12, mid afternoon, at the Bolsa Chica Conservancy Wetlands, in beautiful Huntington Beach, California.
Gotta give this guy credit, having trudged that long distance with all of that equipment: binoculars, spotter scope, tripod, and a DSLR with a mile long lens, but I ask you, was it really worth it considering there was hardly any avian life out there? Perhaps an occasional erne, comorant, egret, heron or loon may venture by, but that's about it. He would switch from device to device in the hope of detecting something. You'd have better luck lying on your back lawn at night waiting for the fiery streak of a meteorite or ufo above.
He admitted to some frustration as to the paucity of any bird life, but was determined to carry on.
I've visited the area about three times already and have seen a total of four egrets/herons. That, along with the virtual nonexistence of any animal/insect ground life -- barring a few rabbits, lizards and miniscule bacteria -- makes for a real bummer.
Ta-ta, and have a nice day.

Fantastic captures !!!
I haven't had much luck capturing birds in a bird park. They are either too high on a tree or to small to be found :( I wish him luck :) Nice candid shot. Aloha
Well you got the best shots, Harry!
Not such a great place for capturing wildlife. But if your are looking to escape the city, this might be just the place.
Cool collage Harry, and that is one determined man
Kind of funny capture :)
Beautiful candid shot you had better luck with a weird bird!!!
Great series..and what an impressive set of equipment with no subjects!!
Nice setup he's got there; perhaps that spot is better for night refuge for wildlife, after they're tired out spending their days elsewhere searching for food or whatever else? Or maybe they're just really, really good at hiding from humans. At least your outing wasn't a total waste, since you got these great shots of this guy, Harry!
I wonder why he doesn't find a more bird populated area. Interesting...but each to their own. Great shots and story here Harry...shows that if one has an interest there is always a will and way.
You really did a great job on these! and I agree I hate to carry much more than my camera and a small back pack with a few extra items like extra battery
Amazing shots my friend, excellent lighting, great job!
Well he tried! Excellent portrait shots Harry, nice ones.. Rob
