Description
This was taken just a few minutes after a moderate rain storm ended. I was driving when I saw this Vulture/Buzzard swoop down to land on the top of a dead tree at the side of the road. I pulled over and just as I was trying to focus in, the bird spread his wings and assumed this somewhat regal looking pose. Although I see vultures flying almost every day, this was was my first photo of a vulture that had landed. Unfortunately (as is often the case), I was a bit too far away for my 200mm lens to capture a crisp image. I tried a number of digital manipulations to see if I could salvage the image and this is one of the versions I came up with.

Such a handsome bird! I love the wings and the red headpiece he's wearing. The spread wings are what really make this shot for me, as are the details OF the wings. This is really marvelous.
