Description
Water and frozen waterscape; view direction to Amsterdam
Last week we were on the island of Marken (now a day’s connected by a dike to the mainland) in the IJsselmeer (IJssellake --- Southersea yearssssss ago) the see the drifting ice creating big heaps..
At the feet of the “Horse of Marken” (= light house of Marken) there is, two days after the frost / winter has left the Netherlands, still a lot of ice despite the fact that the temperature is well above freezing point (7 degrees Celsius) but due to the wind the chill factor gave a feeling of below freezing point!!
The wind and higher temperature does create the condition for the creation of heaps of ice on the east part of the lighthouse. This time the ice is not yet a real a threat for the lighthouse, but so impressive to see mountains of ice at least 2 a 3 meters high.
The heaps of ice you can partly see at the very left of the photo. On the right hand site of the photo you can see the coastline of Marken followed by the mainland.
The Turbine wind masts at the “horizon” are located near het Buiten IJ; a part of the Ijsselmeer just on the east site of Amsterdam (Distance to Amsterdam is approx 20 Km). The visibility was good that morning.
Thanks for viewing, and your lovely words on my previous posting; comments are always welcome.
Have a very nice day
Henk

Nice scene Henk! Not a very good idea to leave such a nice boat in the ice, might be the end of her.
