The Short Animal Market in The Hague
Not a marketplace to buy short animals, but just a short/small street were all kind of animals were sold. In the distance is the Lange Beestenmarkt, or Long animalmarket.... a longer street.

With you providing definitions, I was able to figure out that this was a short beast (animal) market so I thought of pygmy goats, Shetland ponies and all sorts of short animals being sold - then I had to go and read your explanation - hmmmmph! ROFLOL! Thanks for the lessons about your city and your language lessons
