Description
This American M.48 tank is on static display in the outside yard of the 'War Remnants Museum' on Vo Van Tan Street in Saigon. The following information is given on the sign in front of the tank. "Main Battle Tank; Weight: 47.2 tons; Maximum Speed: 48 km/h; Armanent: 90mm gun with coaxial 7.62mm machine gun; Cupola-mounted 50-cal machine gun; Infrared fire-control equipment and xenon searchlight; U.S. Army had some 370 M.48 A3 tanks in Vietnam by July 1969".
The 'War Remnants Museum' has become the most popular museum in Saigon with Western tourists. It used to be called 'Museum of American War Crimes' but as a results of objections, mostly from American tourists, it was changed to 'War Crimes Museum', according to the 'Lonely Planet, Vietnam, 1995' tour guide. As can be seen it has changed again. Whatever it is or was called, it chronicles Vietnam's struggle for independence, mainly from the French but mostly from the Americans.
By the time we visited this museum I was already so fed up with the slanted information provided, I didn't bother to visit any of the four floors of pictures and information.

I'm sure CODEPINK would approve of the museum's tone. Neat photo.
Bill is "blah-blah-blah" about the differences between the M.48A-1 and A-2 and A-3 and gas and diesel ... thanks so much, my friend! LOL!
excellent shot sig.
Stunning capture my friend. God Bless.
Dang, other than the bummed up fender, this tank looks as good as the five I had in my tank platoon as a second lieutenant at Fort Irwin, California in 1962.

Nice shot.
One man's patriot is another man's freedom fighter ...
An impressive piece of equipment but I didn’t think it was built for the jungle. Misinformation is what it is all about in today’s world!
