Description
Luke Skywalker (in the introductory Star Wars film) commented on the amount of carbon scoring that needed to be scratched off of R2D2. In Luke’s rather blond and somewhat nasal estimation, the two…um…’droids saw, “a lot of action.” (There are so many flaws with Star Wars, including mis-naming the…um…species of major characters. R2D2 and C-3P0 are robots, not ‘droids [androids] as George Lucas so brazenly states. But that’s a rant for another post.) The point is, I thought of carbon scoring as I took this photograph, though there’s precious little carbon scoring to be seen here. Oh, there’s plenty of heat stress, and encroaching oxidation, and a partial-though-protective coat of grime, but very little scoring. It doesn’t take much to make me think of Star Wars, however, and I suspect that continued thoughts of that entertaining (and problematic) franchise will probably lead to the burner in this image becoming the component of a digitally kit-bashed starship of probable Nemaean origin.
Or not…
At any rate, I liked the textures and the colors and the wealth of gritty details. It wasn't until today that I thought of Luke Skywalker’s nasal voice, in a movie I first saw a long time ago in a theater that isn’t there anymore.
As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

Reminds me of the movie/stage play "Grease". And now I am thinking of all the tasty treats cooked over a flame here...steaks, hamburgers, hotdogs. But then it doesn't take much to make me think of food...hehe. Well done Chip. Leave it to you to find glamour and adventure in the most mundane things that most of us walk by everyday without giving them a second look. You've got the eye!
and I'm thinking of the new single burner camp stoves that have just arrived for next year's hunting season....which, when turned up at full, sound like the F-4 getting ready for take-off! Great capture
You really do show us the beauty in common objects - even slightly grungy, objects! LOL! Really cool shot, Chip!
Interesting shot, Chip. I'm a big Star Wars fan, in spite of 'problems'...haha.:)
I,m thinking of a "Primus" stove propane gas-powered, that my father used to made syrups at his pharmacy. Yes, you have a great eye, Chip, and give us fantastic images. About Starwars, is a very exciting and fun series, of which I am a fan, (except of episode 3), but totally ignores the laws of space physics...well, any kind of physics.
Oooohh! Regardless of what it IS, and all that Star Wars stuff, this is fabulous!! Just as an abstract composition with color and form and dof ... it's outstanding!!
It is indeed a masterful compo, BUT I have a huge aversion to grease, fat, oil, and anything that contains it so I can't take my mind off the content and look at the art. Sorry!
Superb capture my friend. God Bless.
Very well seen and captured. I like things of everyday life and their estetical worth.
Well it IS a mighty good capture. And the colors are perfect :)
Excellent capture.
excellent
Nicely spotted, Chip; a wonderful glimpse into the source of the heat!
A nice complement to the photo of chicken grease you posted a while back. You are a master of abstract greasy photography (& I mean that in a very sincere & positive way)...
I like the 'heat stress' idea, story and photo. I never thought about the robot vs. droid controversy. I'll have to sleep on that!
