Description
This will be the final of the Currumbin Beach sculptures shown here, there were a few more - unfortunately I didn't go to the night-time showing (sorry to say so) which were - illuminating! - to say the least ;)
Until next year!
***
Here they are as defined and the descriptions by the artists.
# 1 THE LAST WHALE ... (fibreglass with steel-frame)
I love the ugly, lumpy beauty of Humpback Whales. Each animal is such a physical individual.
# 2 REMEMBER WHEN WE USED TO GO TO THE BEACH ... (beach towels, fibreglass etc.)
The colourful towels, on an excursion to the beach do not have the people within them anymore. the empty towels reference a static part-memory of a time that has passed.
# 3 THE THREE FRIDAS ... (2 of 3 are shown - BRT, mosaic tiles)
The Three Fridas are an interpretation of the iconic Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist and has been an inspiration, using bright colours, dramatic symbolism and primitive style.
# 4 HARVEST DANCERS ... (1 of 6, rusted steel)
The Harvest Dancers are formed from retired farm machinery and agricultural equipment sourced from around the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. These works explore the our harmonious and yet tumultuous relationship with the Australian landscape.Prosperity and fertility are balanced with flood, drought, fire and storm.
# 5 EVENT HORIZON ... (granite)
An event horizon is a boundary in spacetime beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. In layman's terms it is defined as " the point of no return" i.e. the point of gravitational pull becomes so great as to make escape impossible.
# 6 CRISIS ... (steel, colourbond & paint)
I like the idea of a spilling filing cabinet. It seems to resonate well with the current world financial crisis, I can see a time, when they become a thing of the past.
# 7 THE WINGED COLLECTIVE - FETCH ... (2 of 8 here, - mirrored alucabond etc.)
They wait for you, ever poised and ever ready to have a stick thrown. Their surface reflects the playful nature of those around them.
# 8 WINDMAN ... (cold caste bronze)
The work is a kinetic figure that takes a whimsical look at the relationship between the environment and business. It features a businessman holding a a briefcase. A windmill replaces his head and constantly turns his to face the wind.

That's it - I must attend to some more mundane things around the house, i.e. doing the laundry ;)
etc., - fun, fun, fun ...
Cheers Brigitte

Somehow the filing cabinet seems inappropriate in his context, the only one you have shown us which is! I love the Fridaa!
I think I'm getting good at this. I figured out the first two before I read the descriptions. I really like the whale's fluke. I would interperate #8 as a politician with briefcase. You know, whichever way the wind blows.
The Humpback Whale pectoral fin is the total winner here for me as I studied whales quite a lot in my younger days! It is symbolic of so much we do not know, and has inspired aeronautical innovation. These fins are the largest movable parts of any animal on the planet.
I think they all rock, I really like the simpleness of the beach towel, but the Windmill dude does it for me this time...talk about air-heads ! It been a great series and looking forward to next years entries ! ~Cheers~
Very good and interesting captures, Brigitte! Thank you for sharing!
Fantastic captures of these great pieces of art thanks
Excellent captures!Nice composition!
That number three and eight are so very cool looking to me. But again, dear Gitti, all of them is amazing to me. A pity you missed the evening show, but indeed, another year is coming with new changes. Thank you so much for your wonderful uploads, and all the good work to explain, a.s.o. It's a great job you've done (for us), my Ausi-friend. btw, here in our neighborhood we have a statue which is very equal to that rust nmb four. When you come I'll show it to you, right?!
Wonderful collage of images. The clear winner to me is the Whale
Outstanding! I love the expression and openness of the artistry! Fabulous collage.
Nice portfolio.
Great collage of this beautiful work!!
VERY BEAUTIFUL SERIES AND COLLAGES
Nice collection - it's been an enjoyable series, Brigitte.
Love the whale, love the beach towels! When I looked at #3, before I read the description, I thought, "Wow ... that looks like Frida Kahlo." It's nice to be right once in a while! LOL! Anything rusty is good. Somehow the last ones weren't as interesting to me as the first four. I have REALLY enjoyed this series! Thanks for sharing more of them with us! :)
Wow another outstanding cast!! All of them are exceptionaly beautiful. Think 1,8 and office equipment no.6 does it for me. Thanks for sharing Brigitte.
To Frida I now think less. More girls in Hawaii. But anyway ... I find her beautiful colorful!! Aloha he...
These are so cool and I love the towels and the three friends ones. Thank you so much for sharing these I have really enjoyed seeing them all. They are all excellent captures.
OMG. I love them all, but #1 and #8 are my favs here. I haven't had time to browse the galleries lately, so I apologize if I missed anything new. These are all great. May I ask you... do you travel to places specifically for sculpture shows? Have you ever been to the Corning Museum of Glass in Pennsylvania, US? It's one of the world's most amazing glass museums. Some incredible works there, along with interactive shows, glass blowing, etc.
A wonderful collage and I like the dogs kissing shadows!
