A private eye enjoys the local talent while working on a case in film noir style. Notes: I have a poster of the original version of this artwork from 2011 on my wall and every time I look at it, I see what I did wrong. It continued to bother me to the point that I finally decided to give it another shot to improve and fix all that I messed up before. This is also my first artwork using the Genesis figure (only the woman, the man is M4). It wasn't easy working with this new figure but I'll try using it a few more times before I give up on it. All in all, I think I spent far more time on this one than I did the original at least in regards to postwork. I like this one a lot better but I just hope I didn't lose whatever it is about the original that made it so cool. Technical Notes: As mentioned, I used the Genesis figure (in Poser using DSON) for the singer. It wasn't just working with the figure itself that gave me problems but the materials. I tried using my latest skin shader which obviously needs a lot more work because I had nothing but trouble with it. I believe that it had something to do with a conflict between the advanced SSS and my IDL setup. I never did quite figure out what was wrong, I just corrected the errors in postwork for now. The actual scene is in color but I monochromed it in postwork then greatly enhanced the detail and contrast using some filters and a few of my own tricks. Then I got to work with the smoke brushes to give it more atmosphere and detail. Finally, I painted in a spotlight on the singer. I'm not sure why I didn't render a spotlight on her in the first place but I'm pleased with the postworked one so it stays.
