Description

This is the Livelet pile-dwelling from afar. I hid the highway one can see in the background and gave it a 'lost-in-time' patina. This is the first of a small series about this Archaeopark, where two of the Simons, the Elder and the New, work mostly from April to October. Valeria works at the Museum of Cavriana (a village near Mantua), which preserves the finds of the Cavriana pile-dwelling and a number of other similar villages in lower Lombardy. Immersed in Val Mareno between the Venetian foothills and the hills of Treviso are the two picturesque and characteristic glacial lakes of Santa Maria and Lago, which are commonly known as The Lakes of Revine. Today they are separated by a small isthmus that once formed a large body of water formed after the melting of the large glaciers of the Piave, a suggestive area that is only a few steps away from Vittorio Veneto and Conegliano. The origin of human settlements in these places has been lost in the mist of time. There have been some findings in a pit bog of Colmaggiore, a hamlet of Tarzo, which proved the existence of an antique village of pile-dwellings that can be seen today in a reconstruction in the Archaeological Didactic Park of Livelet. The Park is opened since 2007. The area of Livelet is located on the western shore of the Lago lake. The reconstruction of the pile-dwelling village of Livelet was based on studies of the type of settlements found in archaeological sites in wet or lakeside environments in Northern Italy and on ethnographic studies, as there are not yet any certain archaeological data available on the type of construction use d by the people that settled the Colmaggiore site. The three pile-dwellings builted in the Park are in full-scale and lie in the proximity of the water and have been built in three different ways: one is directly on the water, one is on dry land and the third is partly on a reclaimed area, half on land and partly on water. The interiors reproduces respectively Neolithic, Copper Age and Bronze Age, the periods when the Revine Lakes was inhabited in prehistory, according with the data collected in the Colmaggiore site.
