Description
I'm in Tokyo now, and while I was out yesterday I saw this lovely old 50s or 60s building fading away into the background. It's just down from the hotel (literally a minute away) and I've never spotted it in all the times I've stayed in this hotel.
The panels on the wall look so 60s or late 50s. The rusting metal sign says "SUN", but I don't know if any of that is missing. I love this era and to see a building with a front like this made me smile.
Thanks for looking.
Iain

I love that this is both familiar and otherworldly at the same time. I can see the vague familiarity of that particular school of architecture but I can't read the signs, though I speak Japanese at the most basic level. I love the overall feel of this, the sense of decay and urbanness. This is great. I love little explorations and peeks into "another world" that photography allows.
The rainbow writing says: Fujicolour, while the writing underneath says: Camera. DPE no Sun. I'm assuming Sun is a company name, so Sun DPE? (Digital Photo Experience?) Could be that this has been a camera shop for decades. The orange logo with penguins is for a cleaning service. I'll have to find some more of these forgotten little time machines :)
Cool looking building - it would make a great model!
I love buildings from this era too. It Kinda puts me in mind of the 'Marineville' tower from Stingray. Keep posting these gems Iain!
The juxtaposition of this old building squeezed between its stark, unadorned neighbours is whats cute for me - and also the fact that the railing has been proudly painted and decked with pot plants, and higher up all the raw wiring, and rusted and unmatched lights and signs. Lovely find! Would be interesting to know what happen to the SUN DCP company (do they still own the property?) and how the tenants survive...either last hangout for dying family businesses or a front for a nefarious and subtle crime syndicate?
wonderful capture
Wow!!! I love any old architecture, and this is stunning...out of place and time but right where it belongs (if that makes sense..) PhilW makes a good point re: modeling, this plus others would make a great 'frontage' for renders...
