Description
Angkor Wat is the largest, the most breathtaking, and best preserved of the monuments of Angkor. It is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five lotus-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. It was built by Suryavarman II between 1113 and 1150 and most probably it was constructed as a funerary temple for him to honor Vishnu, the Hindu deity who the king identified with.
Angkor Wat is unique among the temples of Angkor in its westward orientation. West is symbolically the direction of death.
The temple itself is 1 km square. It is surrounded by a moat and exterior wall measuring 1300 meters by 1500 meters.

There is something about this place that calls to me. It's such an amazing-looking place! I'd love to walk around there, but would need at least two different trips: one for photography and one for just drinking it all in. This is a gorgeous photograph, my friend. Wow.
