Description
We're fully into fall here in the Pacific Northwest, and winter is almost in sight! Since I spent most of my summer building a wall instead of taking pictures, I'm going to take this opportunity to go back through my files and post some images that I didn't get around to when they were fresh out of the camera. Going on long trips and taking thousands of photographs means there are a lot of shots that I think are gallery worthy, but that I didn't have time for in the weeks following our trip.
So ... back to Chicago for a while! :)
By the way, the information I give in my captions about buildings are more for my own reference than because I think you care deeply about these things.
The Seriously Tall Building in the center is The Heritage at Millennium Park in Chicago.
Chicago has a long heritage of tall buildings, and is considered to be the birthplace of the skyscraper.
Corner of Washington and Wabash. On the left is the southeast corner of the Marshall Field Building, and on the right is the 1923 Garland Building.

I like your POV Tara, a very nice capture indeed.
As a former real estate appraiser I never get tired of the details. You are correct. The first building known as a skyscraper was the Home Insurenace Building which opened in Chicago in 1884. It had twelve stories. This is a super shot of three different types of design.
Now that I have my computer back, I can get back into the swing of Renderosity, writing, and stuff. And to top it off, I get to see a shot taken during the whole Chicago visit, which seems like just yesterday. This is such a tall photo. Such a summer shot too, because now Chicago is cloudy and kinda chilly now. I love the architectural details and the building to the right makes me think that it's composed of books. I rather like that. A building made of books! Imagine the stories its walls could tell!

Thanks for this architecture pic! For us here in Europe it looks very strange, especially the fire stairs outside! The mixture of old and new building is outstanding

Terrific, almost surreal photo! If I had to use that fire escape I should choose to burn. However, if I had to work in that building I should already have lost the will to live, so it would probably be a blessed relief.
