Seeing this reminds me of two of my favorite books, one I am re-reading is the Dark Towers with the red rose in the vacant lot, and the other is The Little Prince who was trying to keep his rose alive. I think the rose represents hope.

My interpretation is...this is the grave of her beloved. He has gone and left her alone, and her grief is so great that she is longing to join him. She spends all her time at his grave..his cold and dark grave. She brings a single long-stemmed rose, a symbol of her undying love. She whispers, "Soon...soon..." while she prepares herself to leave the living world behind..to join him either in darkness, or a blissful afterlife, so they may be together forever. Excellent scene...so much emotion and dark beauty. I can totally relate. OXOXOX Jane

What an amazing amount of ideas everyone has come up with and I agree the rose signifies new beginnings after a tragic loss. This is a very emotional render very beautifully created with a very sad atmosphere.

she brings a touch of color to the grey world, at it's last light. Very cool, I like how the ground has a wonderful feeling of depth to it. The only thing about it that I don't like is that the top of her boots keep catching my eye and my brain keeps trying to fool me into thinking it is the horizon. Excellent job and narrative. Also I like the colors obviously, and the symmetry of the skirt and the composition.

Well, in the simplest view. She looks to be standing over a grave and has brought a rose to honor the dead. Who or what is dead could range from a simple loved one or possibly all of humanity. I know you like epic, so I'm thinking humanity. Beautifully done image. The lighting is superbly done and very haunting. Her lack of hair seems to mean something too, maybe sterility. Well done. Hope you are doing well.

Many ways to interpret this powerful and beautiful image, Seth! In my naieve and optimistic mind, I see someone who has discovered (hopefully not too late) that in a world where darkness and strife have taken center stage, there is still light and beauty. And it is and always will be more powerful than the darkness.
