Description
Info from Wikipedia
The Phasmatodea (sometimes called Phasmida or Phasmatoptera) are an order of insects, whose members are variously known as stick insects (in Europe and Australasia), walking sticks or stick-bugs (in the United States and Canada), phasmids, ghost insects and leaf insects (generally the family Phylliidae). The ordinal name is derived from the Ancient Greek φάσμα phasma, meaning an apparition or phantom, and refers to the resemblance of many species to sticks or leaves. Their natural camouflage can make them extremely difficult to spot. Phasmatodea can be found all over the world in warmer zones, especially the tropics and subtropics. The greatest diversity is found in Southeast Asia and South America, followed by Australia. Phasmids also have a considerable presence in the continental United States, mainly in the Southeast.
Found this insect on our cabin patio, saw him waving around on the shrub, and there was no wind at that time so it caught my eye.
To me this is a normal sized one.
A few months ago I found a giant one in my house in the middle of the night... It was about 6 in long and fatter than a pencil. And I was thinking what is THAT!!! Sorry to say the giant one did not survive our encounter.

Superb job on exposing the hiding walking stick. I camped out at Walking Stick State Park in Ohio one time. These guys were crawling on me all night long. I kept throwing them back in the woods, just as another one would come crawling on my arm or leg.
It's so exciting when you find one of these because of how hard it is to notice them. :) Well seen and a excellent capture! :)
Cheryl... you gotta start using your walking stick so you stop stumbling and dropping your camera and taking pictures like this - lol
VERY NICE
