Description
On yesterday's post, I mentioned that Bruges was sometimes referred to as "the Venice of the North". Well, it turns out that it shares that designation with several other cities, including Amsterdam, St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Hamburg & Manchester. The only other ones I've visited were Stockholm & Copenhagen, but that was a long time ago & I don't have any photos from those trips, so this should be my last canal picture...

Amsterdam for sure is no longer the Venice of the north Alkmaar has a nabourhood called after Venice.. Dordrecht is also much more like Venice... Amsterdam lost about 70 of it's canals in the 19th century and is no longer comparable with Venice. Same goes for my city btw.. sadly the closing of canals is never wise

I have actually seen a TV movie recently: "In Bruges" is a 2008 British black comedy-drama, with Colin Farrell, and this is a reminder of it and what a great and final presentation of the canal - wunderbar! Claude ;) BB
