Description
Lady slipper orchids or slipper orchids are the orchids in the subfamily Cypripedioidea which includes many genera. They are characterized by the slipper-shaped pouches (modified labellums) of the flowers. The pouch traps insects so they are forced to climb up past the staminode, behind which they collect or deposit pollen, thus fertilizing the flower. Info from Wikipedia. Showing two POVs but maybe not the same orchid. Photo taken February 2008 at the American Orchid Society, west of Delray Beach, Florida. This complex has since been closed. Collage created with CollageIt.
