Description

One of the most hideous aspect of the hairdresser's apart from the noise is the mags. There are only Hello! type rubbish, and nothing remotely worth opening. So I usually take a book for my normal 15 minute wait. I know some other folk find celebrities interesting, but I feel very strongly that to be one you should have ACHIEVED something: clever, maybe, or heroic, or dangerous, or athletic, or life-changing for others. I opened one of these rags once and apart from the Royals and the Beckhams I didn't know who a single one of them was. The plus side of this 8 weekly horror event is that just sometimes I get some cartoon fodder, like this. The girl helper asked me if I would do some cartoons at her wedding! I have no interest in being stressed so I declined.

Yes, the all too familiar magazine waiting period... :) I like how you've so candidly captured this scene. Funny though, how some things don't change regardless of what part of the world you're in. I never bother with these magazines either. I figure I have enough drama to last me in my own life, and certainly don't need the scoop on those whom I don't even know. I too take one of my own magazines from home, or simply stay an observer of people, in the hopes that I wont be waiting for too long. I had a little chuckle at your title.. hehe... a lovely capture of the everyday, Dear Andrea! Have a lovely Sunday!

LOL I think the worst thing about occasionally going into one of these operations is the smell of the perm stuff. I don't know how people that work there can stand that all day everyday. I agree with you about the celeb magazines. My doctor is an amature photographer, so his waiting room has lots of wonderful magazines on wildlife photography and such. Almost makes waiting a pleasure.

Great scene of life. I now have a Kindle reader in my phone... So I can read that when I am sitting waiting somewhere.

I love going to the hair salon. I have my colour, cut and blow dry every 5 weeks or so. My hair isn't purple on its own! If I left my "natural highlights" i would look like the lady at the end. No perms in sight in the salon I go, music not too loud, lovely girls, mainly Portuguese and I can sit back and relax. I don't read the mags as I don't want my reading glasses covered purple dye. Cappuchino in hand and I am in my element. Great photo, I hope someone doesn't take one of me like this lol

It's like I'm watching a comedy sketch, a marvelous pic. Andrea. I love to see these so different, particular types, their faces, so comical. And, no, I'm not in a barber shop, ever. Too much noise. Indeed reading this, I do not know these celebrities. I sometimes see those lectures in the Chinese takeaway. Do you take spontaneous photos, Andrea, or first you ask for permission? I would not dare to make pictures like this. ;-) (but would love to do so).

Aside from the Hello rags, OMG, what a crew sitting there. I doubt if the salon can turn them into beautiful swans, but I guess anything would help in their case. And we have all kinds of sensationalist stuff over here that is equivalent to Hello.

We don't have that one here; I have heard of it though. Not my kind of stuff! I really hate hair salons, though. The one I go to is a modern flash kind of place, with too-loud music and lots of young stylish types. I wouldn't go there, but I like my cutter so I put up with it.

On the other hand, perhaps these women and many others just enjoy the mag. For many they are just escapism and they do that well. Right now they can still get them. I wonder what will happen when they will need to change to a digital version.

You are hilarious Andrea! I have never been inside one of these places. Sometimes I can’t stand the smell to just walk by. I agree with you and the magazines. If I see one more magazine cover with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, I’m going to ……… I bring my own magazine when I go to the barber and leave it behind when I leave. We like your new young royals - they seem so normal and everybody loves the Queen!
