Description
“The Awakening” is a 70 foot (21 meter) statue, of a giant, embedded in the earth, struggling to free himself. This photo was taken at Hains Point, located at the southern tip of East Potomac Park, in southwest Washington, D.C. It is made up of four separate pieces – a head, a leg, an arm and a hand. It was created by J. Seward Johnson, Jr. and installed at Hains Point in 1980. It has since been relocated to the National Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, on February 19, 2008. The photos were taken the summer of 1983 and recently scanned. The photos are not the best quality but I liked the concept.

Fine captures, Dana!! And a very impressive artwork!!! :o)
Very spooky.
Just imagine, having to walk past this during a very dark night - it would scare hell out of me, but what an amazing sculpture, the sort of thing I really like, always leaving something to the imagination ;) BB
Reminds me of a vampire struggling to rise out of his box. Nifty shot.
Such a dramatic scene, and what an amazing capture of it, Dana! Thank you for sharing, it's such impressing to me.
WOW....Dana this is splendid work my friend, very, very interesting image and capture!
This is marvelous! I love the whole "mythic" feel of this image...there are so many ancient stories in which the primordial gods did something similar, usually screaming and shouting and making a general racket as they...well...as they did so! This captures that perfectly and it's a brilliant piece of art! I love the way in which you've captured this and presented it. It's also funny, because in the mythology of ancient Egypt, Ra created himself by pulling himself out of the mud (in one version of the birth of the gods' myth) and was actually freaked out by the experience and so his first act was to...well...scream in what might be considered a rather undignified way. Ah...myths! They're such fun and this is a fun image!
