Description
The Mercury 15B spacecraft (Don't you dare call it a capsule!) is fully flight rated, but was never launched. It was to be used for the MA (Mercury Atlas)10 mission scheduled for October 1963 with Alan Shepard in command for his second spaceflight.The flight was cancelled as NASA pushed the two man Gemini program forward.
This spacecraft is also called "Friendship 7 II" after Shepard's historic "Friendship 7" Mercury flight in May 1961 marking the beginning of America's manned spaceflights. It can be viewed at the Udvar Hazy branch of the National Air and Space Museum (NASM) at Dulles Airport outside Washington D.C.
